Ms.Ono's Class
Welcome to Orchestra @ CV Starr!
At C V Starr the orchestra program runs in 4th and 5th grade and welcomes all students! If you would like to sign up for orchestra, pleasehave your student fill out a form by coming to my classroom.
Lessons:
Lesson occur once a week on a rotating schedule. The lesson schedule is posted on the bulletin board, given to each teacher the week before, and can be found in Google Classroom. To protect the privacy of our students, you must obtain the password to access the lesson schedule. If you have the password, click on this box:
Rehearsals:
4th Grade Rehearsals: Start in January every Monday from 12:30-1
5th Grade Rehearsals: Start in September: every Thursday from 1:30-2:00
Because each member is such a vital part of our ensemble it is important that each student comes to every rehearsal. Multiple missed orchestra rehearsals may result in dismissal from the program.
Practice Logs:
Practice logs must be turned in every week with a parent signature. Practice logs without a signature will not be accepted for credit.
Instrument Rentals: All students should rent or buy quality instruments. We discourage students from buying while they are CV Starr for a few reasons.
1) Your child will grow out of her/his instrument and will need to exchange it for a new size. Thisis very easy to do with rentals.
2) Instruments sold on Amazon and Ebay are often of EXTREMELY poor quality and are very difficult to repair. Repairs can sometimes cost more than the instrument itself and they are very difficult to play.
3) Rental programs often come with a maintenance program which protects you if anything happens to the instrument. Repairs can be very costly without this.
We have an exclusive partnership with Barcone's Music . If you rent from Barcone's you will be able to leave your instrument at school for pick up/drop off if you need repairs done. You are more than welcome to rent from other locations such as, Music Cottage, Stamell Strings, and Radovich and Dean. Please note that since we do not have an exclusive contract with these vendors, they may not do drop off/pick-up at CV Starr.

Private Lessons
No student is required to take private lessons, but if you are interested in private lessons, here are some locations and people who offer lessons. Please make sure you find the best fit for your child! Private lessons can be lots of fun and very helpful if you find the right fit for your child. Conversely, the wrong teacher for your child may discourage them from playing. Try out a few teachers before settling on one. If you would like lessons from a high school student, please let me know.
Stringendo

Tuning your instrument:
It's VERY easy to break strings. Remember to PUSH the peg in at least 5-6x more than you turn the pegs if you must use them. you can download a tuning app on your mobile device: INStuner or Panotuner are used by many students.
Basic Care and Maintenance: Please note, you do not need to buy a hydrometer
